"In this clip, we're going to talk about canine water therapy benefits. If you have a pool at home, the best exercise that you can give your dog is getting them into the pool. This is not only going to help with their physical well-being; making sure that they stay slender, and thin, but it's also going to help with non-weight bearing exercises. So if your dog is overweight, and can't go for as long of a walk, or if they are post-surgery, or if they have hip dysplasia, or arthritis, the weight of the water is going to take all of that pressure off, so they're not pounding on their joints, but they're still getting the exercise that they need to get their circulation and their lymph flowing. There's different techniques that you can do to make your dog feel comfortable in the water if they are scared, such as holding them lightly underneath their chest. You can also buy them a doggy vest, which they sell at most canine stores. You can look online. And you can also use their favorite toy as a motivator, and maybe even a treat or two. Another benefit of canine water therapy if you do have a pool is to teach your dog where the steps are. In 2006, 10,000 dogs drowned in the United States, so you want to make sure if your dog does fall in into the pool, they know how to find their way out."
