So now your canvas is ready for all practical purposes. It looks good from the back, looks good from the front, but it is wet. You have got to let it dry. You have to be patient and really let it dry fully before you start painting on it otherwise, you are not going to have that smooth surface we have been talking about. How it is so important to have that. Also your colors are going to bleed into the white and it is going to be giving your whole painting a whole different tonality. So, you have to let the gesso dry. But it is also good because that gives you time to look at where you are working and really make sure that your spot is prepared. That you got, you know, if you are going to be working with oils you have got ventilation going on, you have got good lighting. You want to have light kind of shining right on to the surface area of where you are going to be working so as to avoid straining your eyes. You want to make sure that you have fresh water, that your brushes are nice and clean and that you have your paints and it doesn't take that long.
