"Okay, so now we want to make sure that the whole canvas is fully coated and all in the same way because the thing about it, the reason you are putting gesso on here to begin with is if you just painted with paint right onto the canvas it would bleed into the canvas because it is thick and it is pores so you would be using a lot of paint to cover one area and it doesn't go on smoothly and it is just a pain. When you put this over it it is really easy to paint on top because the canvas is already, the pores in it have already been coated by this gesso. So that is why you want to make sure that the whole thing is evenly coated and you can tell right here that it is not. This bit right here is a little transparent looking. It is not the same as this. This is coated smooth; this is still transparent so this area here needs some more. You want to make sure that all these little pores on the canvas are coated so it's a smooth area to paint on."
