"Another place to get your juices going again is to give yourself the project of illustrating a story. Unless of course you're an illustrator already but I've actually you know this is actually a fairly new kind of idea for me anyway and I decided that you know, I like forests and trees and I try to think of story in, in the forest and I came up with Hansel and Gretel. As you know they you know, get left in the woods by their father because their stepmother doesn't want them anymore or they're to poor and he has to leave them there to make their own way. So first I make a forest and I'm going to keep it real simple. Again I'm going to play with shapes and really when you think about a forest you're thinking about when you look in a forest you're seeing a lot of tall skinny shapes. The trunks of the trees you don't actually see too much of the branches. So that's what I've tried to recreate here and I've got smaller ones to get me farther away. And they're farther up the paper so you know your close, you're going to be close to the viewer down here at the bottom and you're farther away when you get smaller. And that's pretty simple thing to arrange and then I've got to have my Hansel and my Gretel. And I just want shapes I don't want to have you know anything real obvious. I just want to keep it to simple shapes and color, I mean I don't, you know, Hansel and Gretel thing you know, a dark colors kind of you know, I wanted a childlike color and I happen to have some of this yellowish paper which seems pretty nice."
