"Alright, here's a common scenario for you, and one that every angler has experienced, and if you're going to go out ice fishing for the first time, you're going to experience it sooner or later; you're not catching any fish. I've been sitting in this hole jigging for an hour, can't seem to find what they want to bite on. I've tried the different depths, so now what I'm going to do, first thing I'm going to do when I'm not getting fishes is I'm going to change lures; I'm either going to use a different jig rod with a different lure. I'm going to look through my lures and say, "okay, if I was a fish, what would be a good one for today. I'm going to try different ones, different colors, different sizes, different styles. If that doesn't work, I might try different bait, I might have maggots on my jig rod hook, I'm going to switch to a piece of a night crawler, or maybe a shiner head, or a shiner tail; I'm also going to start moving. Typically when I jig fish, I'll drill 6,10, 15 holes in a line, and I'm just going to go from one to the another, I'm going to fish each one for about 5 minutes, if I don't find any fish there, I'm going to move on, if I don't find fish when I move on, I'm going to switch, lures, I'm going to switch baits, and that's how you're going to put fish on the ice."
