"Let's talk now about how to use a fish finder while ice fishing; not a common technique that most people think about through the ice, but it's a very, very efficient technique. Your catch rates will will literally triple once you figure out how to use one of these. They are a pretty good investment. They run any of these portable ones for ice fishing run any anywhere from two hundred up to eight hundred dollars, if you wanted to spend that much. But what they allow you to do is not only see how deep the water is, but it actually picks up fish in the water column. I can lower my jig right now, and you'd be able to see where that is as a line. You can see the, I don't know if you can see the line coming down; that big thick line, and now you can actually see a fish coming up from the bottom, which is another big thick line to look at, to look at the jig. And so what this allows you to do is to know when you have a fish, and when the fish are present where you're jigging, it allows you, again, to much more efficiently fish these holes, and if there's no fish around, you just move on and go to the next hole, until you start seeing fish, and then you can, oop, got had one right there, and you can see how those fish react to the lure that you're presenting."
