"Alright let's talk about another fishing technique for ice fishing, not as popular as tip-ups, but gaining popularity all the time. And that's what's called a jig rod. Essentially it's very similar to what one might use for fishing in the summer where you cast, but as you can see it's kind of a mini version of it. And obviously on the ice, you're just dropping your lure down the hole. You're not casting with it. So you don't need a real long rod for that. And really all it is is you know you have a small reel on your rod. Typically the reel will have a drag that you can set, for whatever appropriate drag setting you want. And really all you do, unlike a tip-up that's a passive technique, this is an active technique. Where you actually lower the lure or your bait down the hole. Click your bailer, and then essentially what you're doing, and this is why they call it a jig rod, because you're jigging the lure up and down. And you just reel up when you get a fish."
