"So we've drilled our hole, we've skimmed out the ice and snow that was in the hole so that we can fish it, now when we want to set a tip up, we want to sound the hole. And that, all that is is determining how deep the water is in your location so that you know the appropriate place to set your bait. And you do that using a sounder. You can pick these up in any sort of fishing tackle store that carries ice fishing equipment. Very basic. All sorts of different colors and shapes, but this is probably the most typical. It just has a little, little clamp right there with a spring. And all you want to do is just press that. You put your hook into the groove, and put the, let the spring go. Make sure before you put it in the hole that it's attached there well so you don't lose it. And then all I'm going to do is lower that down, and drop it to the bottom, until it stops. And then I know exactly how deep I am and where the bottom is in relation to the fishing line."
