"Alright, let's talk about what size hooks to use and this is very important and something that you always have to keep in mind is, the size of the hook you want to use is going to correspond to the general fish species that you're fishing for. For example, if you're out there fishing for panfish, for perch, you're going to want to use a smaller hook, maybe a, maybe a size 8. You want, panfish have small mouths, you want them to be able to get the hook in their mouth and you're not going to be able to hook 'em. There's an alternative you could also use, a triple hook, if that's illegal to use with bait when ice fishing in a particular state or water body that you're fishing in. With a triple hook, you're hook up rate is generally going to be better because you have three hooks to catch the fish with instead of one. But you have to remember that that's also going to make it more difficult to remove the hook from the fish. As you start going for larger fish, say, bass or pickerel or perhaps, you might want to start increasing the size of your hook as you can see here. Whether it's with your, your standard single point hooks or with your triple hooks. Again, there's always the option of color. They're making many hooks now that are red or chartreuse, green, different colors. How well they catch fish is opposed to your traditional hook that's been used for years and years as anybody's guess but, you know, certainly anything to give you the advantages worth of try."
