"Now we’re going to talk about how to store your hand auger or your power auger while not in use while ice fishing, but while you're still out on the ice. The one thing that some people do that you don't want to do, is they drill a bunch of holes, they're all ready to fish. Then they drill a partial hole and they just leave their auger in it for the day. Well, for one, that's not good for the blades. Also, eventually, if you get a warm day like today, the ice is just going to melt and the auger is slowly going to come over on the side. Again, not good for the auger. When you're done with your auger for the day, or for a period of time in between cutting holes. The first thing you want to do, put it on the ice. You can try to kick it a little bit, get some of the excess snow off. I usually carry paper towels with me and a plastic bag to serve as a garbage bag. I'll wipe off any extra grease, oil, gasoline, that might have gotten on to the exterior of the auger. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to lay the auger down, always with the gas tank up so that there's no accidental spills, I'm going to take my auger cover, I'm going to carefully lift the auger, put the auger cover on and secure it. And then, I'm going to take this auger and move it away from where everyone is fishing so that no one accidentally runs into it. I'm going to make sure to warn any kids that are around not to go near the auger because they could trip over it, they could get cut."
