Choosing & Planting Pear Trees

"Today we're going to talk about how to pick out and plant a good pear tree. This one right here looks pretty good. Doesn't seem to be too many bad spots on it at all. It looks like there's lots of new growth coming out of it. This is a good one to pick out right here. When planting this, you want to plant it in full sun just like almost every other fruit tree. It likes to be planted in full sun to get its optimum growth out of it. You want to dig the hole about twice the size of this pot right here and put a bag of black top soil around the bottom of it and around the sides, and pack it in real good. And that should give it enough room to get established a little bit faster than if you were just planting it in some normal clay soil which is what most people have around this area. Full sun, definitely full sun just like any other fruit tree here. This particular variety needs to be cross pollinated with another pear tree. It doesn't say that it needs to be any particular variety. You just want to take a look at the tag. It will tell you what you need to cross pollinate it with because each fruit tree is a little bit different. But this particular pear right here just needs to be cross pollinated with another pear to actually get the fruit. If you just plant one, you will not get fruit unless there's another pear tree in your neighbor's yard. Then you may. But these guys are going to get about fifteen feet tall and about eight feet wide and that's pretty small for a tree, but you want to give it enough room to get that big. So don't plant it really close to a lot of other stuff. And just do not forget to water it. It's very important for that first season that you get this guy established in the ground with the top soil will help, and watering it just about every day and should be having some fruit in about probably not the first year but the second year you should definitely be getting some fruit."
