"Ferrocene over the counter is just fine. If I thought it was real dirty to start, I might use a diluted solution of iodine to kind of also clean that wound. And certainly wash it, rinse it well before I would start. Assuming we have our topical in place, I'm going to make sure that I have all my items somehow ready and in my care, unless I have an assistant who can hand these to me. We're going to apply adequate gauze to be sure we create some cushion here over the entire wound site. Then, I'm going to start my cotton gauze. As I roll it in this way, where it stays close to the horse's body, rolling firmly in place. And I'm going to go well above to secure it with just enough tension or pressure, not to cut off any circulation, but to kind of help secure and adhere this, before I put my vet wrap. As I go downward, I'm going to make sure that I encase all of the gauze, because most horse owners know, if this is in place in the morning, we've done a pretty good job. If this wound were real large and/or if I had to go over any bony prominences, we'd have to go to a standing wrap to help secure and keep this all in place without interfering with the circulation."
