"So now we want to start boring out our hole here just to get it ready. OK. So, this is the technique for a platter. Press it down. Press it down. See how I'm pressing it there. Press it down. OK. You want to leave enough room on the wheel; on the bat so you don't, you know you want to; you don't want to get over the bat. Leave about a fingers width from the piece of clay to the end of the bat here. Then from here you want to establish a hole with the palm of your hand unlike the pot where you do it with the; with your thumbs. We're just going to take this and we're going to lock our hands in there and we're going to start pulling the platter out like that. We're going to keep doing that until we compress the clay enough to where I feel comfortable it won't crack."
