The possibility of sorting ten cows from one arena side to another is pretty difficult and some of the strategy that helps teams to do that is such a way that they actually do bring all ten cows across and keep the two trash cows behind all within sixty seconds. I personally have done it within twenty five on one occasion. So I know that it can be done. Much of it of course depends on what we call "the luck of the cow". If those cows are sitting there just ready to come off the sides, the teams going to have a much better chance. Not to mention if the cows are really fresh, they pose a new challenge. They are going to want to run across that hole. So it takes a lot o work for the riders to work together to not only guard the hole but to bring those cows in order across the line. A good cow horse is imperative. There's much pressure put on a cow horse. When those cows present to what we call "the hole". That area between the two round pens. That horse has to able to ward off four or five sometimes cows all at the same time and still keep their ferocious attentive way without getting scarred. Not many cow horses even the best can do it that well and then of course the person sorting, they have to do their best to not got those cows riled up. You want to be quick but you don't want to create such a stir that they all choose to run across. Many times if you can just quietly sort them your going to win out even if you don't get all ten cows. So there's a lot of strategy in it. Learning to read the cows before you go in. Learning to select the cow in a quiet fashion and quickening it up as soon a so you get that opportunity. We are going to take this over to the sorting pens and try to show some of the fun and challenge of what we do in our competitive sport.
