"Our next step is going to be to set this router up to make a 1/4 of an inch deep cut. I have the router set at 0 and I do that by pushing it down until the straight bit contacts a flat surface, like the table, then I lock the carriage in place and adjust these two nuts down like this. If you have one of these plunge routers I'm sure that you already know how to do that. So we've got it set at 0 and then I'm going to take and set my depth gage at 0 as well and then raise it 1/4 of an inch, right about there. Now you have to wear eye protection when you're working with a router. I like to wear these. I got these at a little craft store and they double as eye protection as well. They enclose your eyes from the side which is good also they don't fall off like glasses and you can flip them up right out of the way. Handy dandy little item."
