Art Appreciation: Keep an Open Mind

"I get very excited about Baroque architecture. This is a view of St. Peters Cathedral. Now I don't have the access to go up and be able to photograph this so mostly I'm you know working from photographs that other people take. But I mean there's so much in this photograph that excites me. I mean the the volumes of these various you know architectural elements and the deep contrast of the of the dark of the bright sunlight and the the cast shadows. That's really dramatic in that I I just think that's cool. And then you know the curve versus the straight is also very dynamic. I love bones. I love them for all kinds of reasons. The idea of you know we we're seeing back in time, and the texture and the age that is in the texture, that's suggested by the texture. And then the shape and the movement and the gesture of the bones is very exciting. Here is, here's part of a jaw bone of a saber tooth tiger. And just the movement in that bone is fascinating. And you know it makes me want to draw something. And lastly I don't you know there's this whole ad campaign going on right now about you know about skin and you know they show you know fifty gazillion fists and so on. And there's something about that I'm not sure what it is yet. But there's something there that is clicking in my mind somewhere. So that's what I you need to be insatiable. You need to be open. I read you know. I'll go into the dictionary and check on the on the meanings of words because there's so many layers of meaning in word. And if there's that many layers there, there's that many more layers you can add to what you're doing in your art. So there's that. There's music, and what that can bring into your art. So you know it's not just about getting good with a pencil or you know being really expert with your color mixing. It's also about just keeping your visual you know sonar awake all the time which I do. And just you know enjoying it and knowing that hey you know someday this might be an idea for me."
