"Another way to shake things up, turn things around, is to switch your positive and negative space. Remember now, positive space is what we see as the object. So, bone and skull, basically all the bones here in this drawing are the positive space and the space around it is the negative space is the piece of paper. So, what I suggest is you switch that around. I need a blank piece of paper so you can see this better. So here I have taken the ribcage and instead of drawing the, see here I got dark for the edge of the rib and the top of the rib is this white. So, there is the rib bone it has a top and side. So, what I have done here is switched it. Here's the top of the rib bone and here’s the side. Then I have spaces in between, because you got the other side of the rib cage. So this is air, this is space in here. Normally that is negative space that’s the space with the paper. So I am going to color it in and make it a positive. So know you see your sort of switching things out. It can get kind of interesting. I tried another area here. Down here and again I am sort of drawing the shape by drawing around the shape. I am getting this shape here and I am looking at this shape. I got this shape here and I am delineating that. I am not worrying so much about this shape. So, this shape becomes the negative space and what start to look at this as the positive. Again, this can start to switch around your expectation and it can start to find new shapes and new ideas happening in that subject matter."
