Peek-a-boo Mat: Adding Curtain

"For our last thing to put on our peekaboo play mat, I found these old jeans with kind of a pretty edge to it, and I said, "Oh, that looks like a curtain!" So, I'm going to make a little peekaboo window. And you can just cut off the ends of those legs, and we'll make a little curtain with it. And behind our curtain, I've made a little girl saying hi, and we'll just top stitch that down also. I cut this out of the fleecy fabric that doesn't fray, so you can just top stitch it. And you can make any kind of a little person that you want there. And then we'll take with the bottom of our jeans, I'm just going to cut away this seam a little, get rid of that hard part of the seam. And you'll make two sides, we'll be making two sides like this, cut them about the same size. And you'll sew them just down the side here, just on top, maybe on down a little, so that the curtain can be opened. And then one more across the top. And what's nice about denim is that you really don't have to finish the edges. If it begins to fray it just adds a little more character to your peekaboo mat. So now when we sew this down we'll sew all the way around, and then we'll have our little peekaboo girl. Now I have all my pockets and pieces in place, and before I take it to the sewing machine to top stitch everything into place, I want to double check all around the perimeter, to make sure that there's room to sew on that backing panel in the end. Remember we made a backing panel, and we're going to be sewing the front panel and the back panel together. And so, you want to make sure that along the edges it's clear. The only thing that you want to be hanging past, that will catch in the seam, is this belt section. If you've made this belt section, you actually want to sew this in place here, and that's what will secure it - it'll be secured in the seam. So now I'll take our panel to the sewing machine, and we'll begin top stitching."
