"Today modern violins they use a, what is called Concert 440 to tune to. Now back in the Baroque days, on Baroque violins was actually, I just played a Baroque instrument a couple months ago. You found that the tuning was actually a lot lower so today, to today’s modern ears the tuning on a Baroque instrument sounds like it's very, very flat. So a concert A 440 just sounds like this and as the A tunes a little bit higher that's when the 440 becomes higher. So as you tune higher a, and you can just kind of put your finger down on the A string and hear, to hear how your A string goes up in pitch and it's a very, very subtle thing but your A pitch actually does go up just a little bit. And when you tune down you'll find that the tuning sounds a little flatter."
