Summary: Workouts don't only happen at a gym and Pilates is a great form of exercise that lends itself to household items very easily. Twisting lunges to work the thighs are a good example of this as seen here demonstrated by a Pilates expert in this free exercise video clip.
"This exercise using the paper towels is called lunges with a twist. Now, the purpose of using a roll of paper towels is to really keep your posture upright. Think about pulling your shoulder blades back and down, and pull that belly in, navel to spine. And you'll see a huge difference when you have the paper towels in your hand. So when you perform a proper lunge, you're going to step out with one foot, bring that back heel up, and as soon as your foot hits the floor lunge straight down. Come up halfway, and push back. Step forward, lunge down halfway, push back. Now, to add the twist, come down, twist your torso towards your bent knee, come to the center, and push up. And lunge, down, twist, center, and up. So now we're incorporating the core, so it's five counts when you're doing this exercise. You go one, two, three, four, five. And go ahead, and perform those lunges with a twist for about a minute, or to two minutes, because you're working both sides at the same time. Those are your lunges with a twist."
