"The next two shakers I'm going to discuss are a metal shaker, and the egg shaker. Now, the egg shaker is something that's relatively new; it's fairly contemporary, but it's made of hard modeled plastic with very small beads, maybe plastic or metal beads on the inside, to create a very sharp, distinct tone. Now, it's also easy to play, because its egg shape fits right into ones fingers. So using the wrist to very subtly create that rhythm, you can get a very sharp, distinct tone. Now the metal shaker, just due to the fact that it has a metal casing rather than a plastic casing, adds a little bit more strength and and volume to the shaker. Now, the hexagonal shape of this shaker allows you to hold it with your thumb on one side, and two fingers or three fingers on the other to create a rhythm that way."
