In this free studio recording lesson, a professional musician demonstrates the steps to making a record. He discusses preparation, such as budgeting money and time, as well as writing songs and getting them ready to record before the studio session even starts. "In this series I'm going to discuss in part one, how to record an album. We'll go over the basic parts of recording an album and especially aspects as far as planning ahead and finding out how much money you have to spend on the project. We're going to start off with pre-production, which goes over the advance notice that you're going to need for all the things coming up of which there are many steps. We'll talk about how to write the songs and arrange the songs for your album. We'll look at the goals that you want to have as far as promoting the album, releasing the album. We'll look at the time line, how long it takes for each of these processes to take place. We'll look at creating a budget, recording, mixing and mastering and how to find the right places to get those things done. We'll take a look at promotion and media and in radio. We'll take a look at duplicating and packaging and also distribution, how you're going to get the CD's out to the people. We'll look at band versus studio musicians, arranging, writing out charts for your arrangements, pre-recording, recording before you get to the studio, and finding orchestral or session musicians."
