"Ever wondered how to harvest citrus? Well my name is Richard Skinner I'm at Hawkins Corner Nursery in Plant City, Florida. And the first thing you probably have observed is this peculiar looking bag I have around my strap. Around my shoulder. This bag is somewhat similar to apple pickers and maybe peach pickers but the citrus is a little bit different. The bag is folded twice, and of course when we harvest oranges, or any other citrus, we are going to turn it sideways. Ninety degrees. And we don't pull directly down like this but we pull sideways. And then they snap right off, leaving the button. Well that makes the fruit stay good the longest period of time. Well we are not going to harvest off of this tree fully or full thing, I have done that in the past. At my age I don't carry around a hundred pounds of citrus in the bag anymore. But there are people who do this for a living. If you are wanting to do that for a living God bless you. Well I left the orange tree and of course oranges and grapefruit will be primarily harvested the same way. I've come over to a lemon tree, lemons are a little bit different. One of the main reasons is because we got thorns. And you want to stay clear of the thorns. Certainly a good heavy glove would be in order to harvest considerable number of lemons. Again you are going to have to turn but this time you are going to have to twist a little bit to get the lemon to come off because he's on there a little tighter. This is Richard Skinner from Hawkins Corner Nursery in Plant City, Florida, how to harvest citrus."
