"Hi I'm Nancy Frensley I'm the training manager at The Berkeley East Bay Humane Society, and I'm here to talk with you a little bit about the Italian Greyhound as a family pet and how to take care of them. The Italian Greyhound is a small version of the Greyhound miniaturized, many, many, many, many times over, and because of that they have very light bones and very sensitive bones. So these are a physically delicate dog, that you would have to pay attention to how much they jump and what they're jumping on and off and not letting their legs get caught in things where they will twist in any way. So you're going to want to really think about what it is you want your Italian Greyhound to do. So they're not going to be good in extremes of weather, they will need a jacket or a sweater in cold weather; and they really for the most part want to snuggle up with you. I've seen people who have made great athletes out of their Italian Greyhounds, they do basic dog agility with them, but in general the Italian Greyhound is a dog that just wants to be near you. They're emotionally sensitive, so they can't handle a harsh reprimand; and they'll just want to cuddle up with you wherever you are."
