"Hi I'm Nancy Frensley and I'm the training manager at the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society in Berkeley, California and we're talking a little bit today about how to care for a Dalmation. Now Dalmations have been a particularly selective bred for running. These dogs like lots and lots of exercise. They were used as coach dogs for oh, a couple of hundred years to accompany coaches so all they did was ride on coaches and run along beside them so a lot of that is still in their genes. They are a short haired dog but they handle weather very nicely. They need a diet for a high energy dog and they need to be able to run a lot so this is the type of dog that is going to need a lot of exercise and obedience training because guess what tires them out, using their minds. So you give your Dalmation logs of obedience training and really really lots of socialization. These dogs were bred to be independent to a great degree so the more you socialize them the better they are going to be in your family."
