"I'm Nancy Frensley. I'm the training manager at the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society, in Berkeley, California, and I'm going to talk a moment, about how to take care of a chow chow. Chows have been very popular breeds, for a number of centuries. They make extremely good guard dogs, and they aren't necessarily friendly, with all people, so besides the standard care that you need, you need to take care of grooming, because they have very, very heavy undercoats, and you need to make sure they have an adequate diet. They don't really have high exercise needs, and they're very good stay at home dogs, but if they're left to their own devices, they will start to guard your yard, or your home, so it's very important, that you do two things. That you teach your chow chow how to be handled, by you and strangers, so that they are not worried about that, and that you have your chow chow answer to you, so you need to train your chow chow, to always come to you, to get permission to do anything. They need a strong leadership program, in the home."
