"Hi I'm Nancy Frensley and I'm the training manager at the Berkley East Bay Humane Society and I have been asked how do you care for a boxer? Well I'm primarily a trainer and behaviorist so I'm more interested in behavior than the other aspects of taking care of a boxer but things that you need to know when you set out to take care of the boxer is 1, they don't have much undercoat so they may need a sweater in very cold climates, 2, they are part of a breed that we call bullie breeds or bull dog types of dogs and because of that they have really really high drives and a high desire, lots and lots of energy and they also will go into what we call predatory drift very very easily so when you are caring for your boxer you want to take into consideration training. You need to start training as soon as your dog comes into your home and make sure that they are answering to you because if they get interested in something else they are not likely to pay attention to you. Otherwise you want to make sure that they have a very good diet, that they have lots and lots of exercise. Your boxer will want to exercise a lot, that they play with appropriate dogs, other types of bullie breeds are excellent for them to play with and that they answer to you all the time."
