"I'm Nancy Frensley I'm the training manager of the Berkeley East Bay Human Society in Berkeley, California. And I've been asked how you get rid of tape worms in dogs. Well first of all it's important to know what a tape worm is. A tape worm is kind of an intestinal parasite, it's very, very common. And they are caused by the dog's itching at or biting at fleas. So the little larvae get down into the dog's digestive tract and grow. Now a tape worm, the reason they are called tape worms is they are in segments. But the tapeworms inside the dog is a very long skinny white thing. But how do you tell if your dog has tapeworms. So watch your dog's stools that's always very, very important to do. Is watch your dog's stools and if you see what looks like little pieces of rice, white rice wiggling around in the stool, your dog probably has tapeworms. And that calls for a visit to your veterinarian to get a good worming medication for your dog and your dog should actually be evaluated a couple of times a year for worms and wormed according to your veterinarian's instructions."
