"We're going to talk about Faux finishes. And there are a lot of different faux finishes. There is Trompe L'oeil clouds, there's granite, there's marble, there's color washes, there's glazes. First of all the prep in finishing is very important. You want to tape the baseboards. You want to paper the floor up to the baseboard. You want to lay a tarp on the floor. You want to blue tape, I use blue tape because it doesn't pull off the tape or the paint finish at all really. You want to be careful when you pull all tape off though. Tape all of the, tape everything you do not want paint on. As careful as a painter you think you are faux paint is very or glazing paint is very thin and it does tend to splash and get on things. Now faux painting finishes can range from, I have a few samples here, are rose quartz where you take several different colors and you start with maybe this pallet and then you would put pink over it and then you would put white over it and you move the paint around. Here I used a feather and just moved the white paint over with a feather. And here we did some overlays and just brushed it back. And there are faux malachites faux stones. And this you take the green paint. You have it painted in the turquoise. You take the green paint and put the glaze over it and you actually use a pink eraser and you move the paint that's on top of your dried paint turquoise surface in circles to get that malachite look. Tortoise shell you start with the creamy buttery beige color and you square off with tape different sections and do them individually. And you take the brown paint and you actually kind of splash it on there with a wrist movement where you get that movement of the paint. And then you can also hand paint some of that in and you get those embellished corners simply by taping a square and then cornering off each one with a tape and doing them individually. Same thing here with just different colors over tops spackled. Which to use a is a stippling brush I call it a stippling brush or a spackling brush. And you just take the paint and you put it on top after its dried, a still a little bit wet to mix the colors in. And then you always take a white lim paint with a glaze and water and go over that and that pushes everything down. And it gives it a three dimensional look. So those are some, a few of the finishing techniques. And I'm Lorna Campodonico faux finisher."
