I'm Robert Markey and I've been doing wood working for many years and we're going to talk about spade bits. Spade bits, there are many different kinds of drill bits and the spade bit is in some ways the simplest. It is basically a flat bit. Now there are slight variations if you notice that will hook on the end and this is flat. This is going to give you a much cleaner cut than this. They both go through but this cuts the circle first. When you want to drill something since your hole ends here and the point is here make sure you have something under the thing that you are going to drill. If we would drill a hole through here it would go into the work bench. As soon as you feel it lift off then you know you are through. There is the hole and you can see how we went into this. If you try to do it without a backing you would still get a hole but the back you see how this is pretty nice here, the back would split all out for you from the pressure of the drill right before you finished the hole.
