"Let's talk about soothing itchy skin for dogs. The first thing to know is: why is the dog itchy? Is there something underlying, like flea allergies, any type of just environmental allergies, infections of the skin, those types of things. So check with your veterinarian first on how to properly help soothing skin. There are lots of different ways to deal with itchy skin. For allergies- antihistamines, which your veterinarian can talk to you about. Also, shampoos and sprays usually work somewhat well for itchy skin that's just dry, or for some types of allergies, as well. And so, there are shampoos. There are conditioners, and leave-on rinses, these days, for dogs. And check with your veterinarian or veterinary staff to see what would be the best or most appropriate for you. The other thing about itchy skin is making sure that the dog is on an appropriate nutritional plan. That is, a good type of dog food. For lots of dogs that have allergies or itchy skin or dry skin, using a vitamin or an oil supplement with fatty acids in it. These types of things will replenish the oils in the skin and help for dry skin. And if there are some allergies, sometimes it'll help that, as well. But again, check with your veterinarian first, and they should be able to guide you on how to deal with itchy skin."
