"Hi, my name is Doctor Kim Makoi. I'm a holistic chiropractor from San Francisco, California, and this is how to tell if you have tailbone pain. First of all, you should know what your tailbone is. It's...the other name for the tailbone is the coccyx, and it's this teeny-tiny bone right at the end of this larger, triangular bone in your lower back called the sacrum. So, most of the time that coccyx is injured due to hard falls onto your butt, most of the time on the slippery ice, things like that. And, most of the time, you will have no doubt that you injured your tailbone, because it'll be a very distinct, sharp pain right there, and it'll hurt mostly when you're sitting. Other ways that tailbones can be injured are actually more subtle ways. If you notice you've been having some pain around the tailbone area since starting to wear certain tight fitting girdles with little thong attachments, that's actually a common source of tailbone injury due to the constant pressure on the tailbone, especially in people with sensitive or loose ligaments. And that's how you know if you have tailbone pain."
