"Joel Hickerson, GrinDog.com. Today we're going to learn how to draw shoes. First thing you need to think about is how the foot interacts with the shoe. Like for instance, we'll start with a easy one, a ballet slipper. You got a real simple little half circle. It doesn't have a heel, so you basically follow the outline of your foot if you had your foot in the shoe. Very simple, and very easy to draw, a little ballet slipper. Next thing if you want a little more complicated shoe would be maybe a high-top, a basketball shoe. Now this shoe covers the shoe completely, so you do the foot shape, but then the front, the toe is usually kind of a circle or half circle in itself, the sole is a little thicker, so draw the sole next, you have a little half circle at the back. The tongue and the laces are going to play a huge part in this one, so you can- don't get caught up on the details of the laces, just draw lace shapes and maybe some eyelets down. And the classic high-top has a little Chuck Taylor sign or to use a more generic term, just a insignia on the side. And there you have your basketball shoe. Again, you can draw the leg coming into it if you'd like. Maybe another type of shoe, an evening shoe, possibly a high-heel, which you start tall at the back, you kind of do a little upside down S turn to the bottom, come up. It's like the ballet slipper front, do a little half circle, come up, cap it off at the back and the foot is forward on this one, you have the arch of the foot, like that. There's usually a little stopper down here at the bottom, you can do a little 3D to give it depth, very little sole at the front. Other type of shoe might be a flip-flop, where you would draw the foot to get your points of reference, the flip-flop sole is relatively thin, depending on the flip-flop, and you get a point right here between the big toe and another toe, or the second toe, and you bring back one strap and the other strap disappears around the edge of the foot. Another more fun one to draw is the boot which you may draw a large upper piece, come down, and again with your S you're going to have a heel on this one too. Draw your heel, a low sole. This one is fun because you can decorate the sides someway if you want to, maybe put a little pull up strap at the top. There's your boot. And that's how you draw shoes."
