Joel Hickerson, grandog.com and today we are going to learn how to draw people. The first thing to think about is it a man, a woman, maybe even a child as that will make a big difference on our dimensions. So say it is a man. We will start with the head, straight line for the body, shoulders, hips, legs, feet and the arms. Let's flesh upper body, very simple eyes, nose, face, thicken up the arms, pretty much very simple, man drawing. Now if it's a woman we are going to change the dimensions a bit. One thing about a woman is the head is probably going to be a little shorter than the body, proportioned to the body. The body line is the same, shoulders will be a little thinner and the hips instead of being where the man's hips are are up just slightly and where the shoulders on a man are broader than the hips the shoulders on a woman are just barely broader. So you bring it in, same thing, hands on the hips. Now a woman is going to come in to an hour glass and come out, two let's, feet. So just by raising the hips you can make the woman look more feminine than say the man standing next to her. Then of course you can change the hairstyle to whatever form of hairstyle you want to come up with. Maybe lips and a kid you are going to drop it down another notch. Now it depends on the younger the kid the bigger the head compared to the body so we'll make this a little bitty guy with kind of a bigger head, exaggerate the head and the shoulders and the hips probably about the same width. Let's make this a little boy, and to accentuate the fact that he is a kid, his eyes are going to be slightly bigger, the nose will be a little closer to the eyes and the ears and the nose are all smaller in proportion to their head. You can do other things to make it look more like a kid like you can make the feet slightly bigger in proportion to the body because it seems that kids are always trying to catch up to the feet so that is just basic rule of thumb for drawing people. Guys usually have stronger eyelashes whereas women have lesser, women and children both have less hair on their eyelashes. Guys may have a stubble on the side of their face and girls not so much but maybe freckles and kids the same way and that's how you draw people.
