"Hi, my name is Lauren, and today, I'm here to discuss how to apply highlights. The easiest way to apply your own highlights, is by painting them on. There are numerous highlighting kits, that you can purchase at any drugstore, or beauty supply store. A good rule of thumb for doing your own highlights, is to look at the box very carefully, and see what level of lift, you actually get. The stronger the peroxide, the higher the lift. Normally, if you go to like a Sally's, or a professional beauty supply store, you can get developers, 20 volume, 30 volume, and 40. For a 20 volume, you get two levels of lift, 30, you get three, and 40, you get four levels of lift. It's important to know how much lift you can get, so that way, you don't turn your hair into more of an orangey color, and have the highlights not come out right. Once you actually get the lightening powder or the home hair coloring kit, you're going to mix it up. It should be some more of like a yogurtey consistency. You're then going to simply take your hair, with a brush. Usually, those home lightening hair kits come with the brush. You're going to grab a section of hair, and paint on the highlights, wherever you deem. If you want some a little bit more around the face, you can go a little heavier. You're going to want to wear gloves, when you do this, so that way you don't wind up burning your hand. Usually, the home hair kits come with everything that you would need, plus they also come with the little brushes, which are a little bit smaller than this, which will make it a little bit easier. You continue around the entire hair, and you simply brush it on, and just lay it down. I'm not pushing the hair down, I'm just laying it down. That will prevent it, and kind of give it a little bit of aeration, so that way, it doesn't go against the rest of your hair. That way it will give you highlights, and you will not end up with any blotchy spots, and that is the easiest way to highlight your own hair."
