"Hello my name is Scott and I'm the owner of Climb On indoor rock climbing gym in Wilmington, North Carolina. Today we are going to discuss what is an ATC for rock climbing. Any time we talk about rock climbing and the gear that we use it's very important that you get proper instruction from a qualified professional at your local indoor rock climbing gym. An ATC for rock climbing is a belay rappel device. I use the ATC guide because it's got a few more functions then a regular ATC. The ATC works on friction so as you belay your partner or you use it for rappel, you've got your brake hand and it just takes a little bit of friction to stop the rope from moving through the device. The best way to remember ATC is air traffic controller. If you are not in control of this device your partner shouldn't be up in the air. Again anytime that you are learning to use this equipment it takes proper instruction from a qualified professional at your local indoor rock climbing gym. This has been ATC in rock climbing."
