"Hi my name is Scott and I'm the owner of Climb On indoor rock climbing in Wilmington, North Carolina. Today we are going to discuss how to tie your own harness. Obviously the best method of using a harness or getting a harness is to go out and buy one from your local indoor rock climbing gym or your local outdoor outfitter. There are lots of different harnesses out there that are made to take and withstand the falls that are involved in rock climbing. The points of being tied in, if in an emergency you would need to tie your own harness generally we use webbing to do that. With proper instruction you can learn how to tie one of these completely. We make two leg loops in the webbing with overhand knots. Then it wraps around your waist and we use a water knot to finish it off. Once you got your water knot in, you want to clip your leg loops with your carabiner up into the waist band and you want to make sure you grab all the different strands for your waist band. And that's going to become your tie in loop or your rappel ring for your emergency harness that you make yourself. Again proper instruction is needed to be able to build one of these and you can get that at your local indoor rock climbing gym. This has been how to build your own harness."
