"Hello, my name is Scott and I'm the owner of Climb On, indoor rock climbing gym in Wilmington North Carolina. Today we're going to discuss rappelling down a rock face. The first thing that you would want to do is get proper instruction from your local indoor rock climbing gym on how to rappel down a rock climbing face. Rock climbing and rappelling are inherently dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. The first thing I want to do before I hookup to rappel would be to tie a knot in the end of my ropes in case they don't reach the ground my rappel device doesn't slip off the rope. The next thing I will do is hook up to my rappel device, make sure it's locked, and begin to rappel. Whenever we rappel we're basically lowering the rope through the rappel device to lower ourselves down. The reason that I'm walking down a face is because it's a flat wall. I'm going to want to get my feet out in front of me about shoulder width apart, make an L with my body so that I have good stable feet as I walk down the wall. Once I'm ready and I feel stable I'm just going to start to let that rope slide through as I lower myself all the way to the ground. This has been how to rappel down a rock face."
