"Today I'm going to talk to you about how water pollution affects fish. First of all water pollution is caused by many, many different factors. It's industrial waste, farming and human beings just throwing garbage and whatever into the streams. What happens is, pollution affects the eco system. It will start at the smallest part of the food chain and it'll affect the chemical makeup of the river. Whenever there's some kind of chemicals introduced into the streams where there'll be nitrites from farming, or chemicals from different manufacturing plants. What it does is it attacks the lowest form of the food chain, it starts with the little phytoplankton and zooplankton and all the way up to the fish. Cause they eat the smaller planktons, the smaller fish will eat the planktons and the bigger fish will eat the larger fish and what happens is they all get affected by those chemicals and it throws off their body chemistry as well as the water temperatures can be affected. The soot buildup in the streams affect the spawning of the fish. So it all has an adverse affect and it compounds all the way through the food chain and it eventually can destroy the river and everything in it."
