Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen, and in this segment, we're going to talk about how to repel mosquitoes. Now, mosquitoes are around, especially in the summertime. They come in the morning and the night the most, so especially on a nice hot summer evening, there is always going to be mosquitoes, especially if you live in the country, but there is a few things that you can do to repel the mosquitoes. The most important thing that you can do, is to make sure there is no standing water on your property, because mosquitoes need that standing water, to lay their eggs, and for more mosquito bait, to make babies, so if you've got water features, make sure they're not standing still. Get a pump in them, get them moving, because the mosquitoes don't like moving water, and make sure and flush the water out regularly, with fresh water too, because that way, none of it is stagnant. They need stagnant water, so go around all over your house, and around your house. Make sure the buckets are empty, there's no standing water, there's no plastic with water in it anywhere, there's no slip n slides, there's nothing that's got standing water, and that way, there will be nowhere for the mosquitoes to lay their eggs, so really the only other way that you can repel them, when they're around you, is to protect yourself, so you've got to set a boundary, so if you've got any exposed skin, make sure and cover it with oil, any type of oil, lavender oil, vegetable oil, olive oil. Mosquitoes don't want to bite you, if you've got oil on you, and DEET works really well too, any material with DEET, but make sure that you only use a little bit, and be careful with it, because it is very toxic, and although it is not as toxic as other materials, it still is something that you should use sparingly, and it does repel mosquitoes the best, more than anything else, so if you're going to be outside for a long period of time, then DEET works the best, but for only a couple of hours, just use vegetable oil or olive oil, or any types of oil, and herbs work really well too, whether it's chamomile, or citronella, or you can use any type of lavender. All of those, spearmint, any thing works really well. There's lots of spices that you can rub on your body, to deter and to repel mosquitoes.
