"How does one become ballet teacher? Well first of all it takes years and years of dance classes and dance training to learn the techniques of the ballet world to be able to be a good and successful teacher. Some other things that are very important are knowing anatomy which is the makeup of the body and also knowing what is age appropriate for certain ages in ballet. There are many backgrounds which a ballet teacher may have. Some of them may have had experience dancing in ballet companies themselves. Some dancers may have had advanced academic classes on the university level and some may be only through their own teachers of classes that they took. It is important to note that you do not have to be a professional ballerina to be a good dance teacher. Love of children, love of knowledge and love of the art of ballet is the most important thing to be a successful teacher yourself. Pre-ballet which is often taught to three to five year olds is very different from an advanced ballet class where the dancers would work on point. It is important to know what is appropriate at which ages and which levels for the dancer so that they can get the most out of their class. It is also important to remember to continue your own education. By taking class yourself, you have the opportunity to become a better ballet teacher to the students around you."
