"Let's talk about what types of medication are used to deworm cats. The first thing to think about is prevention. There are several products on the market, Advantage Multirevolution and Heart Guard that you can give your cats either topically or orally like Heart Guard per month and that can prevent or control infection that they're continuing to get outside. When a cat has something like round worms then generally veterinary clinics are going to distribute or give you a prescription of something like Pyrantel Pamoate which treats hook worms and round worms. But there are lots of other products that are used as well. Check with your veterinary clinic first if you think that your cat may have intestinal parasites, check with them. There are some over the counter products that are used to deworm cats which are not typically recommended. A) because they generally don't work and B) because of side effects. Other parasites such as tapeworms which are very, very common, there's another product that is Praziquantel and is used to treat that type of infection but again they're all sorts of different products and all sorts of different methods of treating intestinal parasites for cats so check with your veterinary clinic first."
