"Hi my name is Pat Goodwin with Pat Goodwin Associates and the question that I've been asked is how can gender discrimination affect the workplace. We'll begin to think about gender discrimination affecting the workplace, it's a huge issue and it's something that needs to be taken very seriously. If you find that there is gender discrimination going on in the workplace and you can trust going to someone whether it be your senior manager or hopefully your HR department, you want to go in and have a discussion with them. Not necessarily launch a complaint, but just have a discussion about what are the rules and regulations within the company. Make sure that it is stated in the policies and procedures manual. Most companies have a policies and procedures manual but if you find that the company does not have on, that is something that they need to implement very, very quickly and make it clear what is the expectation of employees. Once that is established and you find that you feel like there is something that you need to discuss, you can first of all discuss it directly with the individual so it won't go any further and that you could talk about that certain comments are offensive to you or you can talk about a behavior or a look or language that's being used that's offensive. If you find that it's not stopping, then you would to take that to a higher level and be very professional in handling this particular charge with someone because it cause someone to be fired when they didn't realize that they were being offensive and if they are and you have warmed them to discontinue and they continue, then that's something that you would want to take up with your HR department and your manager. It's a very serious issue and it's something that is not tolerated very well in the workplace today. I believe we've come a long way, but there is still times that people feel like that there is gender discrimination in the workplace and you want to address that. So I hope that helps you to be more comfortable in how to discuss that issue. Thank you."
