Hi, I'm Kelli, I'm an aesthetician and makeup artist at Ulta Salon and Cosmetics, and I'm going to talk to you a little bit about how having an oilier skin can prevent aging. Unfortunately, we can't decide whether we want to have oily or dry skin, it's genetic, it's predetermined at birth, but an oilier skin does definitely age a lot slower than a drier skin ages, and the reason for that is a more intact moisture barrier. Oilier skins produce more oil, drier skins lack oil, so oilier skins have a thicker moisture barrier, and a more intact moisture barrier than a drier skin does. So, moisture barrier, that's your first line of defense against free radicals, scavengers that will go in and attack your collagen and elastin breakdown, which leads to fine lines and wrinkles. So somebody with an oilier skin has typically a thicker skin, and therefore a thicker line of defense against free radical scavengers that can lead to signs of aging. Drier skin too, if you notice anybody with a drier skin, which she has a little bit of a drier skin. If she smiles, you're going to notice more expression lines on a drier skin, just because that skin is going to be thinner, it's going to be more delicate, so it's going to crease a lot easier than an oilier skin will. So, in short, having oilier skin definitely will slow the aging process.
