"How does a drum machine work? This is the MPC-2000. Basically I sample things from either the CD player underneath or from record, directly into the machine. Within it you can chop up the samples to get just the parts that you want. Like a kick, snare. In here, basically you just go ahead and press record. It'll give a little metronome counting. It will record what you did and play it back basically in real-time. You play each part separately, kicks, snare, hats, basically as many bars as you want. You can do different measures and it will play them back. You can sync it up using time codes so if you have to record multiple times it'll sync up and keep things lined up perfectly audio wise. I wouldn't go too much further on a drum machine than just the beat. It is a drum machine after all."
