"Hi my name is Lauren and today I am here to discuss how many times a year you should highlight your hair. Highlighting is not actually on the scalp so therefore there will be a little bit of a root when you first get your highlights done. You want somebody who is going to bring it as close to that root as possible so that way you are not left with a lot of a root. Usually highlights because they are broken up pieces and they are just a bit more of an accent and add dimension you do not need to retouch them every four to six weeks. You are talking more or less every ten to twelve weeks which would be about every two and a half to three months. If you are continuing with your style every two to three months you would probably be highlighting your hair about four times a year. The longer your root the more your stylist has to work with. Once your hair is highlighted you should not go over that line. Too much lightening on your hair can actually help make your hair break because it is stripping your hair of its natural color. You want to have enough root where you are not having to go over any prelightened hair and therefore you can keep your hair strong, healthy, get the look that you want and the color that you want and that is how many times a year you should highlight your hair."
