"Hi, my name's Dave Andrews, and today, I'm going to talk to you about connecting a PC to a network. Now, why would you want to connect a PC to a network? Basically, when you have two computers networked together they're able to share files and data between each other over that network. If if those two computers were not somehow connected to each other by a network, and you wanted to get one file from one computer over to the other computer you'd have to use some sort of external media like a floppy drive, a CD, or a thumb drive, and you'd have to first pop it into one computer, copy that file onto that external media, pull out your external media, put it in the other computer and copy it over, and that's just very troublesome. And this is true even if those two computers are sitting right next to each other on the same desk. If they're not connected by a network they're not going to be able to talk through software. So, connecting them together will allow you to directly connect and copy files immediately, rather than having to deal with that external media. Also, those two computers will be able to share an Internet connection. If one of them has an Internet connection open the other computer has the capability of using the connection that's on that other computer to access the Internet. In in Microsoft Windows that's called Internet connection sharing. You also have the capability of, you know, doin' other things like playin' multi-player games when those two computers are connected by a network. My name's Dave Andrews, and I've just told you why you should connect a computer to a network."
