Computers are complex machines built upon very simple principles. They perform arithmetical operations millions of times over to transform digital information moving at lightning speed into usable human data. A personal computer's job is to help a user create, manipulate, deliver, receive or delete media content. This is a simple, sterile definition that sounds uninteresting on the surface. Nevertheless, these fundamental functions mimic human ability in some surprising ways. Therefore, the computer is increasingly becoming an engine of the imagination, a platform for the digital life. In this free video series on computers, an experienced software developer discusses resetting different things on a computer. Find out how to reset the audio, the keyboard and the mouse on a computer, and get information on de-fragmenting a computer to clean up the hard drive. The software developer also offers advice on preventing computer freezes and staying safe on the Internet.
"Hi my name is Dave Andrews and today I am going to show you how to transpose a data array in Microsoft Excel. Let's open up the Excel by clicking on the start button, going all programs, let's find Microsoft Office and click on Excel. What the transpose function does is it converts data that is stored in a column or a row to the other format like it will convert a column to a row or it will convert a row to a column. I'll zoom out of here a little bit so you can kind of see what I am doing, 50% and I am going to type some data into this column here, one, two, three, four, that's all I'm going to type right there and I am going to take this data, one, two, three, four which is in a column and I'm going to put it in row one starting with C, the way I do that is I click on C1 and I type the function, equals, transpose and I start a parentheses there and I am going to highlight my original data by clicking on my mouse and dragging over it and then I'm going to do an end parentheses and just press enter. Now the next step to do this is to highlight from C1 all the way over to F1, press the F2 key, hold down your control button and your shift button and press enter. Now I actually got an error from running this where it said name over and over and that is because I typed my transposed command incorrectly so I am going to close out of that and sort of delete this and we're going to do it again. Click in C1 and type equals transpose and then open parentheses and let's select A1 through A4, close your parentheses and press enter. Now if you get a 1 there that's a good first step. So let's highlight from C1 to F1 which is where our data is going to appear in row form, press the F2 key and then hold down your control button, the shift button and press enter and as you can see our one, two, three, four that was in a column is now one, two, three, four in row form. I'm Dave Andrews and I have just showed you how to transpose a data array in Microsoft Excel."
