"O'kay folks in this clip we are going to be learning how to draw anime style warrior clothes. One thing that is beautiful about the world of anime is the incredible amount of freedom that you have to experiment. They are literally one of the most creative visual styles out there. So first off what you are going to want to do is establish your pose, get your designs earliest, preliminary sketches out of the way figure out exactly how you want your hero to be standing and then we will go into exactly what he will be wearing. So you basically have his rough outline there and now what we are going to do is start to add some of the detail. It is essentially supposed to be somewhat of a romantic figure I would think most warriors are fighting for a cause of some kind and if we are giving him any sort of medieval story line here he is probably going to be wearing some sort of a suit of armor hence the warrior portion of this clip. Obviously we want our hero to be protected and again the beautiful thing about anime is the ability to think outside the box when it comes to all sorts of interesting designs. Like you don't have to give him what would be considered traditional armor, we definitely want to give him proportions that people are used to seeing but as for the armor itself we can add our own take and make it as interesting or confusing or artistic as we want to make it. Now one thing I recommend doing is going and reading a lot of Japanese comics before you decide to come in and tackle this particular style of drawing because you will often find that there is just a lot of information out there when it comes to different styles of anime designs and art and you can never really fully tackle this genre not knowing exactly what kind of world that you are dealing with. There is a lot of available artistic information and a lot of inspiration at your fingertips honestly when it comes to creating some of these more heroic characters. You can really go nuts, that is the beautiful world of anime. There is such rich tradition and there is a distinct style to be sure. There really is no clear cut rule when it comes to this is how it can and must be done. You can get as creative as you absolutely want to and no one is going to stop you and when you take a look at the basic design a lot of it really doesn't make sense outside of the world of anime, most of the anime style drawings don't make sense to tell you the truth and they wouldn't hold up in the real world. I mean things even as crazy as the hair styles I mean people attempt to do it but it really doesn't make much sense logically but it is really just more of a romantic completely fantasy based creative style to drawing and when you are designing a warrior keep that in mind too when the design of his armor, the design of his pose, everything ought to be as completely outside the realms of reality as you want while at the same time grounded in a practical sort of rooted design."

on 2/7/2009 Ooo it seems I was mistaken about your viewpoint on Japanese manga and animation. Sorry about that. Here you clearly understand how the artwork is not just big eyes and stylized hair.
