"Hi I'm Tim Gipson, I'm going to talk to you about how to adjust your thermostat. Now if you have a manual thermostat, you're either going to have a dial or a push button. In this case, this has an up and down so if I push the up, it raises the temperature, if I push down, it lowers the temperature. Now this particular model is a programmable thermostat which is something that can save you a lot of money on energy costs by using a programmable thermostat because what you can do is you can program automatic setbacks into this. So when you're downstairs is not occupied, you can set it for either the heat to be off or your cooling to be off or be at a lower setting. Now typically whenever we're adjusting a thermostat, it's usually a good idea if it's a little bit cool instead of coming in here and turning it up 10 degrees or so, usually the best thing in adjusting your thermostat is to do it 2 or 3 degrees at a time. So if I wanted, if I was a little bit cool downstairs, I'd click it up 3 increments or maybe just 2 increments, let the heat come on and wait a few minutes and kind of see if that brings the comfort level up in the room where I am. It's better to avoid drastic changes because that's what makes your system run and really labor which means it's going to use a lot of extra energy in doing so. And if we are programming thermostats, you can see here this has a weekday program, a weekend program so these programmable thermostats are very easy to use. Simply set it to the weekday program, it flashes and so we have our first time set. So in this case, this one's set at 5:45, it's set to be at 67 degrees. I can hit the next button and it has 8:00AM, it sets it back to 64 degrees. So with this, we can actually set 4 different times. So you can see on this programmable thermostat when we're occupying the room, we're setting it to 67, when we're not, we're setting it back to 62. So always remember when you are adjusting your thermostat, it's usually better to go in small increments and let your system recover instead of going to large increments because you just end up wasting energy. So I'm Tim Gipson and that's how to set a thermostat."
